Training Opportunities

Below is a partial list of stormwater training workshops we currently provide.  If you have a stormwater training need, please contact us to discuss additional training opportunities.

Permanent Stormwater BMP Inspection and Maintenance Workshop

The Colorado Stormwater Center provides a 2-day training workshop on permanent stormwater BMP inspection and maintenance.  All stormwater BMPs require regular maintenance to remain operating as designed. In this 2-day training workshop, we teach participants how to recognize BMP maintenance needs and how to perform maintenance correctly.  The workshop includes 8 hours of presentations/discussion in a classroom setting, a 4-hour field trip and a 2-hour written exam (optional).  Participants that successfully pass the written exam receive certification from Colorado State University Extension and are recognized on the Center’s website.

Who Should Attend: Government (city/county/school) maintenance personnel, permanent BMP inspectors, MS4 managers/coordinators, landscape contractors, property managers, homeowner’s association managers, etc.

Permanent Stormwater BMP Design and Design Review Workshop

The Colorado Stormwater Center provides a 2-day training workshop on permanent stormwater BMP Design and Design Review. Properly functioning stormwater BMPs begins with the design process and carries through inspection and maintenance. The focus of this course is to present primary design components of stormwater BMPs as well as tools available for the design process. Additionally, key design review components are also highlighted to ensure that only properly designed BMPs are making it to the installation stage. In this 2-day training workshop, we teach participants how to design and review designs of BMPs. The workshop includes 8 hours of presentations/discussion in a classroom setting, a 4-hour field trip and a 2-hour written exam (optional). Participants that successfully pass the written exam receive certification from Colorado State University Extension and are recognized on the Center’s website.

Who Should Attend: Government (city/county/school) design reviewers/engineers, MS4 managers/ coordinators, consultant engineers, municipal planners, etc.

Permanent Stormwater BMP Comprehensive Seminar Workshop

The Colorado Stormwater Center is offering a new 2-day seminar workshop to bridge the gap between engineering and maintenance of BMPs. After years of offering the Permanent Stormwater BMP Inspection and Maintenance course across Colorado, feedback that was received identified the need for bringing design engineers and maintenance and inspection personnel together. With this new seminar we combine our BMP Design & Design Review course with our BMP Inspection and Maintenance course. In this seminar style workshop, we will begin the first day by bringing everyone together to discuss the purpose and function of different BMPs being used in Colorado such as extended detention basins, rain gardens, and permeable pavements. During the afternoon of the first day, engineers and inspection/maintenance personnel will split into their respective workshop sessions where they will receive specialized training for their topic of interest. Day two of the workshop will begin with a short session together initiating the conversation of how engineering and maintenance activities can support each other for correctly functioning BMPs. All attendees will go on a group field trip where real-world applications of the topics will be discussed while providing opportunities for engineers and maintenance personnel to work together to continue to solve challenges in the BMP design and maintenance process. After completing the field trip, participants will return for a certification exam to demonstrate comprehension of the covered material from the two-day workshop (optional). Participants that successfully pass the written exam receive certification from Colorado State University Extension and are recognized on the Center’s website.

Who Should Attend: Government (city/county/school) design reviewers, engineers, maintenance, and inspection personnel, landscape architects, landscape contractors, design engineers, MS4 managers/ coordinators, municipal planners, property managers, homeowner’s association managers, etc.

Introduction to Green Infrastructure and Low Impact Development Workshops

The Colorado Stormwater Center provides training on planning, design, evaluation, construction and maintenance of green infrastructure (GI) and low impact development (LID) practices. The use of GI/LID practices is growing exponentially throughout the US and represents the new paradigm of stormwater management. Our workshop is set up as a full 1-day workshop meant to introduce stormwater professionals to GI and LID and is taught in partnership with Andrew Earles at Wright Water Engineers.

Who Should Attend: Government (city/county/school) design reviewers/engineers, landscape architects, MS4 managers/ coordinators, municipal planners, property managers, homeowner’s association managers, etc.

Please contact us to discuss additional or private training workshop opportunities.
